Pedro Carvalho

Full Professor and Coordinator of the Energy Scientific Area, Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon

Pedro Carvalho is a Full Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, and Adjunct Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, USA.

Pedro Carvalho obtained his PhD from IST in 1999. Since then, he has devoted special attention to the future challenges of electric grids planning and operation, creating new courses dedicated to the fundamentals and the opportunities created by data analytics in estimation and control of smart grids. In IST, he is currently the Coordinator of the Energy Scientific Area of DEEC.

Pedro Carvalho is a recognized researcher in the areas of analysis, operation, and planning of electrical power grids and an entrepreneur in developing decision support software for the electrical sector, having developed products with international acceptance by the industry.  He is a Senior Researcher at INESC-ID, where he coordinates the Energy Transition line, one of the four thematic lines of INESC-ID.
