Carlos Moedas
Mayor of Lisbon
Graduated in Civil Engineering and with a Harvard MBA, Carlos Moedas initiated his career at Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux in France. He then moved on to the Goldman Sachs investment bank before returning to Portugal. There, he led Aguirre Newman and later founded his own investment management company.
In 2011, Carlos Moedas was elected as a member of the Portuguese Parliament and was appointed Secretary of State to the Prime-Minister, in the XIX Constitutional Government, with responsibility for coordinating the Adjustment Program.
In 2014 Carlos Moedas became the 5th Portuguese National to be appointed as European Commissioner since Portugal joined the EU in 1986. He ran a €77billion Science and Innovation program across the European Union.
In 2020 he joined the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation as a Trustee.
In 2021, Carlos Moedas was elected Mayor of Lisbon, a position he currently holds.
